“Perhaps…” August 31, 2008

“Perhaps it is no wonder that the women were first at the Cradle and last at the Cross. They had never known a man like this Man–there never has been such another. A prophet and teacher who never nagged at them, never flattered or coaxed or patronised; who never made arch jokes about them, never treated them either as “The women, God help us!” or “The ladies, God bless them!”; who rebuked without querulousness and praised without condescension ; who took their questions and arguments seriously; who never mapped out their sphere for them, never urged them to be feminine or jeered at them for being female; who had no axe to grind and no uneasy male dignity to defend; who took them as he found them and was completely unselfconscious. There is no act, no sermon, no parable in the whole Gospel that borrows its pungency from female perversity; nobody could possibly guess from the words and deeds of Jesus that there was anything “funny” about woman’s nature.”

Philosophy Class… August 27, 2008

“An attitude of open-mindedness and objectivity is certainly very core to getting the most out of studying philosophy. This doesn’t mean that you cannot still keep values or beliefs that are important to you, but it does mean that you have to be willing to listen to other people and also learn from them as well. In the end this might mean that sometimes you do change your beliefs about certain things or that your beliefs are simply enriched and you have a stronger idea of who you are as a person and what you believe, but hopefully not in an arrogant kind of way.”

So I’m learning Spanish, right? I guess I’m the best one to answer that question. Yes, I am. Hopefully I’ll do all-right with learning it online. I have no idea if it will work but I figured I should at least try.
“Me llamo Amy.”
At least I think that’s what I would say. Though I have no idea how Amy would be pronounced in Spanish. Maybe Ah-mee?
Computer Adapter Cords… August 26, 2008

So my computer requires this thing called an AC adapter cord when the battery wants to be recharged. Several months ago, sometime last year my laptop fell on the ground on its side and the adapter cord took a hit and prevented serious damage for the laptop.
In the process though the part where it plugs into the computer smashed and was forced in a sense to give its life. So anyway, I had school to do so I needed to get a new adapter cord right away since my battery would only last a couple hours. I found what I thought was a decent replacement only to find out when it got there it would not fit. And I had even paid for fast shipping. So I send it back and get the right one. This one worked until it started coming apart like a month after I got it. Talk about poor performance. Anyway, I got a replacement and that one has lasted up until now.
I noticed it’s illness about a month or so ago when the little adapter box basically came apart so I had to tape it to keep it together. Then the wires under the rubber protection started protruding but still it worked so I kept it. Well, today it started crackling and fizzing and essentially demanding that it be put to rest so that’s what happened. I don’t really blame the adapter for being so unreliable when my first adapter had lasted for a year and probably would have lasted much longer if it hadn’t made the sacrifice that it did, but I blame the shoddy manufacturers. I’m getting an official HP replacement this time where I didn’t last time, so they better make a cord that can live up to the standard of my first valiant cord.

So today [(well actually technically yesterday since the new day just started about an hour ago (I should go to bed btw.)] my Spanish and Philosophy classes started. It should be a fun semester I think. Next week my Anthropology Lab, Social Dance, and Play Writing classes start. And to think I was originally only going to take Spanish. Funny how that goes…
